Programs
The primary objective for PACS is to provide open, accessible
private care at the community level for those who have slipped
through the cracks in governmental programs. Without this care,
low income people tend to lose hope and are less able to find
the strength to move on with their lives. “PACS is here
at the end of the month when other resources have run out. PACS
works in conjunction with, but separate from federal and state
human services programs,” comments Rhonda Whitney, Executive
Director.
The people that come to PACS for help are many and varied. A
typical person, taken from a compilation of statistical evidence
gleaned from individual records at PACS would be a Caucasian
female, representing a family of four living on an income of
$353 - $1,010 per month. A little over half of the individuals
we serve are children. About half of the people we serve come
to us only once. If they need help on an ongoing basis, we find
the average length of time that individuals need help is about
15 months.
